University of Melbourne, Master of Engineering
Updates and FAQs about the professional Master of Engineering:
1. When is the program offered?
The professional Master of Engineering is offered as a 3 year program from February 2010, and as a 2 year program from February 2011.
2. Who is the program suitable for?
The 3-year program is suitable for non-engineering gradutes who want to study and qualify as an engineer, the 2-year program allows engineering graduates to be immediately recognised upon completion of the program by Engineers Australia. The Master of Engineering is a three year program, with students who gain entry to the 2 year program recieving 100 points/1 year credit for prior studies.
3. Accreditation?
The University of Melbourne's Masters of Engineering is the first professional Master of Engineering in Australia to be given accreditation by the nation’s peak body for engineering, Engineers Australia - and through its membership of the Washington Accord, is recognised in twelve of the world’s leading economies, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan and Singapore.
*The Masters of Engineering suite has provisional accreditation from the Institution of Engineers Australia - full accreditation is only granted when the first students graduate from the program.
4. What areas is the ME available in:
Biomedical, Biomolecular, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Geomatics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Software, Structural
5. What are the entry requirements for the program?
3 YEAR PROGRAM: Successful completion of a recognized undergraduate degree - it can be a non-engineering degree but must include some relevant first year Mathematics and Science subjects
2 YEAR PROGRAM: Successful completion of a recognized undergraduate degree - in engineering
An equivalent of (University of Melbourne) GPA of 65 or more in the final two years of the undergraduate degree for both programs
6. How long will it take to assess applications for the Master of Engineering?
We are likely to need to assess each application on a case by case basis - this can take several weeks. The amount of credit we give will depend on the institution from which the student gained their Bachelor of Engineering (or non-engineering degree for those seeking the three year program), the subjects studied and whether the student is changing their specialisation (if they studied engineering). The School is developing some standard credit policies for institutions from which we presently receive large numbers of Masters students.
For further details and applications, please contact JMECC offices in Malaysia and Singapore.
