University of Tasmania helps international students secure part-time employment
We recognise how important securing part-time work is for many international students. Tasmania's tourism industry is booming and many businesses cannot recruit staff during peak periods, particularly in summer. To help link students looking for work with vacancies in the tourism and hospitality industry the University and Tasmanian government have funded the APIS (Assisted Placement of International Students) program to provide free hospitality training to 60 international students who then undertake work placements with employers across Tasmania. Students have just completed the 2 week training stage and it is expected that most, if not all, will secure suitable work placements for the remainder of their studies.

$30m Funding Boost for Agriculture and Mining Sectors
The University of Tasmania has received $30m for research funding which will be used to create a mining research hub designed to develop more cost-effective and environmentally friendly exploration, processing methods and mine waste management.
The Sense-T program, which was set up in 2012 to gather and build a digital view of Tasmania by using environmental sensors has also received funding to expand its big data project - a partnership between the University, CSIRO, the Tasmanian Government and IBM. The funding will help transform this data into usable knowledge and spawn new projects with global impact in the agricultural and aquaculture industries.

Graduate Diploma of Pharmaceutical Science
"While I do have plans to travel around Tasmania, you really don't have to travel far away from the UTAS campus to be amazed by the scenery; you have Mount Wellington as a backdrop and in front there is a beautiful view of the Derwent River. I got my first ever glimpse of snow in May and it was amazing."
