Study Group is excited to announce the new scholarships available to incoming students at a number of universities in the United States. Scholarship amounts are in the range of $5,000 to $10,000 and are available to students that qualify.

Discount for PTE Academic

Great News - An offering 20 % discount for PTE Academic in Nov and Dec. 

Every candidate or student who are booking for the test in Malaysia would be entitled for the discount. Students need to key in the Promotion Code: MALAYSIA when they book to enjoy the discount. 

So the price of PTE Academic would be RM 500 after discount. There will be lot of test sessions for Nov and Dec and will be additional test sessions available.

PhD students share their thoughts on what it’s like to live and study in New Zealand 


Michelle Ong (Philippines) – Psychology Michelle’s thesis is on Filipina migrant’s embodiment of ageing in New Zealand. 
“It’s quiet but stimulating. I’ve met students, professors, researchers and staff from all over the world.”

Camila Mery (Chile) – Civil and Environmental Engineering Camila is studying a PhD in wastewater treatment. 
“I enjoy the easy access to parks and beaches, beautiful scenery and friendly people.”

Benefits for PhD students: 
  • International PhD students pay the same annual fees as NZ students (the annual fee in 2015 is NZ$6,502.80). 
  • Full-time PhD students may work in New Zealand while studying. 
  • A PhD student’s spouse or partner may apply for an open work visa valid for the duration of their programme. 
  • Dependent children are classified as domestic students and can attend New Zealand’s free primary and secondary schools. 
  • On completion of their PhD, students may apply for a 12-month post-study work visa. If they find a suitable job in their chosen field, they may then apply for a two-year post-study work visa (employer assisted).
  • Internationals PhD candidates can apply for University of Auckland Doctoral Scholarships worth over NZ$30,000 each. 140 of these are awarded to international and domestic students each year. 
  • Flexible start dates means PhD candidates can apply and begin their study at any time during the year.

New Start Date: Research Masters Programmes

Prospective students who are interested in studying a research masters programme at the University of Auckland now have the option of three start dates throughout the year. As well as the main semester start dates (2 March and 20 July for 2015), students can choose to begin their research masters programme on 1 December each year (including 2014).

Applicants are asked to specify their preferred start date on the online Application for Admission form. Prospective students are advised to submit their applications at least two months in advance.

Popular Research Masters Programmes
Master of Engineering (ME) 
Students can choose from nine specialisations including Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Computer Systems Engineering. As part of the application process, prospective students will need to contact an appropriate supervisor and negotiate a research topic. 

Master of Commerce (MCom)
The MCom is offered in nine different subject areas through internationally accredited Business School. The programme builds on undergraduate experience, and is a good choice for students who want an opportunity to develop their research skills in a business area, with a view to further developing their career.

Master of Science (MSc)
An MSc allows students to undertake advanced study and work alongside experts in their field. The MSc provides students with the opportunity to undertake independent research in an area of interest within 29 subject areas. Students gaining an MSc by research with First or Second Class First Division Honours may be eligible to enroll in a PhD. 

Special Notices:

PhD Scholarships
Prospective PhD candidates in the field of mathematics (differential geometry) may be interested in a scholarship for research work with Professor Rod Gover. The scholarship covers fees plus a stipend for living expenses.

Discontinued Programmes
The following programmes have been discontinued in 2015:

  • Bachelor of Theology (an alternative option for prospective students would be a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Theology).
  • Bachelor of Technology (prospective students could opt for a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Engineering).
