Early-bird scholarship for MACS students

The School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences will be offering the 10% Early Bird scholarship again this year, to Postgraduate (taught) applicants for Actuarial Mathematics & Statistics programmes and Mathematics programmes. (It is not currently being offered to students applying for Computer Science programmes)
So, any applicant who accepts their offer (conditional or unconditional) before 31st March 2015 will automatically receive a 10% discount on their fees.

International Summer Schools

Applications are now open for our three international summer schools. There are two based in Galashiels in the School of Textiles and Design, and one in our School of Management and Languages in Edinburgh.
Our programmes in Textiles are both three weeks long and give an insight into the unique practices of the luxury heritage brands produced in Scotland and which make the Scottish Borders famous for luxury fabric.
Our programme in Management in Languages is also a three week long programme and will introduce students to basic techniques of translating and interpreting between Spanish and English.

MACS student is a Countdown Octochamp

One of our students in the School of Mathematics and Computer Science won 8 episodes of the popular UK television quiz show Countdown. He has now moved onto the semi-final of the competition.Good Luck Laurence!

MQA update on Indonesia Qualification

MQA has held a meeting on 30 December 2014 among the ministry member, EMGS and representatives from higher institutions in Malaysia to discuss and update on the latest international qualification circular. At the meeting, MQA agreed to revoke the circular released earlier regarding the implementation of new entry requirements for 2015. MQA also confirmed that Indonesia high school qualification SMA3 with an average grade of 6.0 and above are entitled to enrol into the bachelor degree programme in Malaysia and SMA3 with grade 5.0-5.99 will need to enrol into the foundation programme. MQA is in the process of confirming the entry requirements of the various countries and have agreed to maintain Year 12 (High School Diploma/ Certificate) entry into degree programmes – but, the grades & percentage to be determined by MQA. MQA will confirm a revised entry requirement for ALL countries latest by April/ May 2015 as a thorough guide for all higher institutions.
